Other Than Some New Training, How Can I Get My Dog Re-trained For House Breaking?
Posted in Hunting Dog Training Tips on 01. Dec, 2009
Ever since having my daughter (she’s 6 months old) my dog has been jealous for obvious reasons. Who can blame her? My husband and I do our best to spend time with her and take her out to play but with the baby and working, it’s hard to get “real outside playtime” in. Even though we walk her she still saves up and pees in the house! We’ve laid down wee-wee pads and she’ll go on them for the most part but usually only makes it half-way on the actual pad. She knows better and I know part of this is her showing us she’s upset with us but I’m tired of having to clean up after her in the house almost every day! I can’t afford to take her to training again or to have someone come by and take her out for fun. Unfortunately there are no doggy daycares in my area or I’d leave her there once or twice a week to see if it’d help. Are there any other techniques we can try to help her stop going in the house? Our yard isn’t fenced in, otherwise we’d leave her out there while we’re out!

Crate train her. If you can’t have eyes on her, she should be in her crate.
Asking her to use the pee pads is confusing her (if previously you taught her to pee outside exclusively). Pee pads do nothing but teach the dog it is OK to piddle in the house. They’re very confusing.
Crate train her. Good luck!
Oh, and dog’s don’t do things for spite – you’re humanizing your pet. She’s doing it because she’s confused by the pads when before she was taught it was NOT ok to pee in the house. She’s probably peeing and running at the same time to avoid the correction she was taught earlier – which would explain the 1/2 on 1/2 off scenario of the pee pads.
I am a single mom and I have two kids, two dogs, three cats and two snakes – I also work 40+ hours a week and volunteer twice a week – so it can be done. Good luck!
almost everything i’ve seen and read has mentioned that the pads are not an effective long-term method of breaking a dog. you may be giving your dog mixed messages because of sometimes having her go outside and sometimes having her go on the pad. i think it’s much less to do with the birth of the baby and her jealousy and much more to do with inconsistent housebreaking methods.
I put my dog in a cage and when it comes out to play I make it go on a wee wee pad then I play with it. After that when they are old enough i take them out of there cage and thye go bathroom and cant play untill they do
some pet stores will train them for you
